GILSONITE
Gilsonite is produced from crude oil that solidifies and oxidizes over time underground. Due to the pressure exerted by the earth’s layers, Gilsonite’s smooth and lustrous surface turns into a brownish-black solid.
This material turns soft and fluid when heated. Essentially, natural bitumen is the residue of oil evaporation. Oil has collected over many years in ponds surrounded by impermeable materials such as plaster, stone, etc., after migrating through the earth’s cracks and layers. Gilsonite precipitates and formed by evaporating oil volatiles under high pressure. As oil evaporates from an oil pond or lake, a bitumen or asphalt lake forms naturally.Gilsonite (mineral bitumen) is an extremely pure natural hydrocarbon material that is rich in asphaltene and nitrogen compounds. This is the easiest way to describe natural bitumen. In addition to being dark, shiny, and brittle, it contains a minor amount of sulfur and ash. Although natural bitumen has a similar look to hard coal or asphalt, its chemical properties are markedly different. The mineral Gilsonite is soluble in aromatic, aliphatic, and bitumen solvents.
APPLICATIONS

Worldwide, sulphonated asphalt is frequently utilized to effectively drill oil and gas wells through difficult shale strata. The superior shale inhibition, high-temperature high-pressure (HTHP) fluid loss management, and torque and drag reduction provided by sulphonated asphalt enables oil firms to drill through very difficult and sensitive shale areas without incident.
Sulphonated asphalt is asphaltic material that has undergone a particular sulphonation procedure to make it partly soluble or dispersible in water or fluids containing water. As a result of the sulphonation process, negatively charged sulphonated asphalt particles are attracted to positively charged shale, establishing a protective layer on the shale structure and sealing its surface, pores, and micro-fractures, therefore minimizing HTHP fluid loss and stabilizing the formation. Additionally, sulphonated asphalt aids in the production of thin filter cake and enhances the lubricity of filter cake, hence lowering torque and drag in lengthy horizontal drilling operations.
APLICATIONS
